Well there is absolutely no denying the importance of this long-standing southern California punk band. The Smut Peddlers have had a torrid, winding road that has spanned some 10 years already, and this brand new 8 song ripper will be another testament to the amazing musical brilliance these guys possesses. Long standing Smut mainstays JOHN RANSOM (Vocals), JULIA SMUT (Drums) and GISH STIFFNESS (Bass) have recently been joined by SEAN "the duck" MALLARD - (Guitar) formerly of Vinyl Dog's Naughty Monkey to track this killer 8 song monstrosity. Just check out that oh so hot looking 10" jacket. Ya it's got the tried and true Rolling Stones- Sticky Fingers flare. But you know only the SMUT PEDDLERS are calling this bad boy 'Ten Inch', and well they ain't talking about the size of the wax folks!

Now, lets check out the tunage. By far one of the strongest assets the SMUT PEDLERS music holds is their lyrical ability to re-create stories and experiences in an absolutely titillating/humorous manner. If you have heard any of their 3 full lengths ('Ism', 'Tarball 2000' or 'The Two Old Ones' all released on the bands own Ransom Records) you know what I am talking about. Singer/lyricist John Ransom has a knack for describing stories and situations in a very complete and concise manner. He does it in a way where you feel as if you have experienced these lyrical tales first hand. Just take a look at what I'm talking about. Oh let's check out the lovely Rebatron Party off of 'Ten Inch'. Just to preface the song, if you don't know, Rebatron Therapy is a potential cure for Hepatitis C. So in Rebatron Party John Ransom screams:

don't know what I'll be wearing
only that i wanna score and get it on
i'm going to bring a whole lot of ribavirin
and interferon

you're invited if you're a hype
if you wanna go just follow me
you've just got to know your genotype
so let's get you a biopsy

rebatron party tonite
48 weeks gonna feel not right
rebatron party tonite
if you have hepatitis c
this soireé has got it all
come on in it's the place to be
but they won't let you in with alcohol

you've got to kick the smack
to fully dig the masochistic addiction
everybody here at this swingin' shack
has a legitimate doctor's prescription

first take a look at your viral load
yeah baby now you're totally groovin'
shoot some of this and try to put it on hold
now let's monitor your bilirubin

now you've got it
now you're stylin
the party keeps going on day after day
kick me down some of that ribavirin
and check my recombinant rna
set aside eighteen months please
stop taking herbal remedies
say good-bye to the life of crime
up the dose of the heptazyme

Pretty disturbed, brutally real and almost amusing in that 'I'm glad it actually wasn't me' sort of way. Back that with Sean's top notch guitar playing, and Julia's amazing drum fills, and the Smut Peddlers are right back where they need to be...at the helm of the OC beach punk scene right next to the Stiches, US Bombs and Smogtown (RIP brothers)!

Well 10 years in and they are still going strong. Having shared the stage with great bands like the Adicts, U.K. Subs, the Controllers, the Skulls, the Crowd, the Distillers, the Dwarves, Sylvain Sylvain, D.I., Youth Brigade, Dr. Know, One Man Army, the Humpers, U.S. Bombs, Cadillac Tramps etc., you can tell these guys are mainstays in the So. Cal. punk scene. They've been to Europe in August 2002, toured the US in March 2003 and been up and down the West Coast numerous times. The dedication this band has for its music and its fans is pretty rare, and admirable to say the least. The Peddlers are getting ready to record for their 4th album very shortly, and 'Ten Inch' will be just what their rabid fan base needs to hold them over until that nugget is released.

So this isn't the last you've heard from this warped bunch of punk rock beach bum's. Like most cockroaches their bands age, the SMUT PEDDLERS are one of those few bands that no matter what circumstances arise, you just can't squish em dead. They'll be the first to tell ya... uh ya, we'll be around for a while!!

For fans of: Stitches, Crowd, Smogtown, TSOL, Triggers, Flip Tops, Moorat Fingers, Riffs, Street Trash, Hery Fiats Open Sore, etc.
