Remember those days when Rock & Roll ran through the veins of the bands that played it. When there was no facade or choreography just a real Rock & Roll energy that shot off the stage like a bolt of lighting and kept you LIT all night long. Well, you don’t have to remember those days any more. Thanks to Rock N Roll heathens the Black Jetts, they’re here to keep that raw frantic spirit alive.

Situated deep below the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas strip, lie the 4 mopped haired rockers known as the The Black Jetts . These fellas have been around about 2 years now creating quite a commotion in and around Sin City. With the demise of Gabe Stiffs (Singer/Rhythm guitar) former band, the Lucky Stiffs, Gabe wanted to start a band that would would knock the world on their ass. To get the job done, he hooked up with local friends Danny (Bass), Jay (Drums) and the notorious Roy Page (Lead Guitar) to form the Black Jetts. After a slew of practices, and small recording ventures, the Jetts released their 9 song demo CD-R appropriatley titled ‘Sonic Blast’. With a slew of rave reviews for ‘Sonic Blast’, the Black Jetts WERE on their way to knocking the world on their ass.

After playing out non stop since the bands inception, the Black Jetts began to recieve recognition for being one of the premier garage bands to ‘keep an eye out for’ in and around Las Vegas. On top of that the Las Vegas Weekly stated that ‘Live the Black Jetts just KILL. On ‘Sonic Blast’, levels are kept well in the red, allowing for some of the most thrilling moments I’ve ever heard on a bands demo. Frontman Gabe Stiff is a fighter pilot of the highest order attatcking every song with a religious fervor unmatched since Iggy Pop, or a young Little Richard.’ With feedback like that, the Jetts knew they were on the right track, and had to hit the studio again to complete their debut.

With the undaunting drive the Black Jetts had to create the epic debut, Bleed Me offers 11 killer rippers including a cool cover of the Who’s ‘Leavin Here’. I just wanted to preface the fact that this album was recorded completely raw, and I think this is the albums biggest appeal. In 2 seperate recording sessions I feel that the Black Jetts captured something. You can just hear a band totally busting at the seems playing their hearts out for some mics and an 8 track recorder. This is a band that just likes playing their tunes. You can really hear something fresh in these 11 tracks. First and foremost originality, but on top of that these songs really have soul. In the same way that many people say that Thunders spoke with his guitar without saying a word, the Black Jetts exude that same energetic intensity. Just check out songs like ‘Rehab Love’, ‘Cheap Date’ and the incredibly moody ‘Hangin’ Around.’ These songs just exude heart and soul rock n roll that you can feel. They simply move the listener.

I think that Andrew Kirlay from the Las Vegas Mercury hit the nail on the head when he stated ‘But fuck if the Black Jetts don't sound fun. The Jetts aren't purveying anything new; still, while a bit too steeped in its own idiom, Bleed Me is a decent piece of neo-classic garage rock. It's raw and wild but tight, has both teeth and decent chops, and fulfills the most important function of any successful garage rock record--it really makes you wanna see the band live. Standout tracks: "Leavin Here," with its romping back-and-forth between Roy Page’s guitar and Gabe Stiff's charmingly sociopathic moan, and "Hangin Around," a moody track that goes from swamp to stomp.”

After seeing the Black Jetts live a few times I can attest to this same raw spontaneous energy. The Black Jetts are real. They love music, and they’re very at home on stage. This isn’t the type of band to just go through the motions. The Black Jetts don’t TRY and impress you from the stage, they just DO. Although maybe a bit out of tune, or blasted on whatever, the Black Jetts just exude raw spontaneous energy that just comes across as ragged free spirited fun. And I think their at ease aestetic of plug in and put out, is what many of the recently converted Black Jetts fans pick up on after seeing them live.

Well with many in the Las Vegas press and music circuits stating that the Black Jetts are THEE next big thing to come out of Vegas, we at Dead Beat Records take all that in stride. We just know a good record when we hear it, and are proud to release Bleed Me. So don’t miss an opportunity to see the Black Jetts live. Bleed me is an absolute masterpiece, but Gabe and the boys really do manifest their talents in a dim lit, smoke filled club playing their hearts out to their current and future fans alike. And as the Jetts would say... Ah, IT”S ONLY ROCK N ROLL BUT I LIKE IT. My sentiments exactly!!!
