As many of you may or may not know the Stockholm based LOCOMOTIONS are the brain child of 3 musical masterminds. The idea of starting the LOCOMOTIONS spawned from three dudes who shared a practice space in Stockholm. First up you have Martin Savage who is no newbie to the scene. He’s played in bluesy, punk and frantic rocn n roll bands for well over 10 years now. Among the more notable bands Martin Savage has been in include the Blacks, Tokyo Knives (RIP), Dixie Buzzards, Chingaleros (with dudes from Aerobitch and the Carbonas) and the Playmobils. Joining Martin to complete this three piece are Topi the Kat and Loco Lopez. These two guys are currently in the uncompromisingly amazing rock n roll outfit the Sons of Cyrus (all Radio Birdman/Rolling Stones fans must here theyse guys) also out of Stockholm.

Well as the story goes: Martin Savage, who at the time was doing damage in the Blacks, was sharing a practice space with the Sons of Cyrus. As a result of their load in/load out conversations, and apparent commom musical kinship, they half jokingly threw around the idea of starting a band. Well after a number of off the cuff remarks, and their apparent free spirited interest in the same musical sub genres, the LOCOMOTIONS were born. After the first practice, they agreed that their was something their between the band that just clicked. After numerous sessions, they new this band was going be more than just practice space fun. After months and months of jamming, the LOCOMOTIONS were ready to hit the studio to document this infectious spark that was iginiting in their run down, dirty practice space in Stockholm. Something was happening more than just a few friends jammin’.

Well the LOCOMOTIONS were more than excited to go in and track their debut album for a yet undetermined label. They new that they wanted to release a single on Martins label Savage Records just to get the word out. They decided to go in and track the album at Dubious Studios in Stockholm, and the results were more than amazing. 14 songs of Boston by way of the NYC no frills catchy spastic rock n roll. Their Stockholm city oad to the Real Kids via the amped up Dolls/Heartbreakers had more than been achieved.

Martins plans to get the single out immediately were set back back by more than just financial problems. But he still wanted to keep 2 of the 14 Dubious sessions tunes exclusive to the LOCOMOTIONS- ‘Tell Her’ 7”. Alien Snatch released the 12 song S/T LP including a cover of the incredibly amped up and fuzzed out ‘The Locomotion’ (originally written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin) by which the band garnered their name. That song to this day still remains a crowd favorite when they rip through it with such frantic, energetic stomp. Well just after the S/T LP was released Martin finally released the ‘Tell Her’ 7” on Savage and it quickly went out of print in a matter of weeks.

Well we here at Dead Beat are proud to bring bring you the LOCOMOTIONS entire Dubious sessions including the 12 songs from the S/T LP and the 2 songs from the ‘Tell Her’ 7”. This 14 song CD contians a raunchy mix of r&b, punk and no frills rock n' roll. The LOCOMOTIONS- S/T CD kicks off with "The American Fuse." The intro contains a keyboard effect thats sounds like it’s going to lead into a wave record. But luckicly the jagged, infectious guitars kick in, follow by Martins savage howling of ‘WE”RE YOUNG AND WE GOT THE JUICE....’ The album begins like a jolt of raw rock n roll engergy . Up next is "Come And Get It" which turns the pace down a bit as more of an r&b infected shaker. "Headlights On" continues with the flutter of Savages guitar and blasts through a cover of this amazing DIRTBOMBS' tune about a girl who got a little too cold. "Stockholm City Girls" is the kind of song the Stones used to write. Great song, great riff, great melody, high energy!! Throw in a few more fast ravers that give Topi the Kat a chance to shine as his drumming on this album is absolutely amazing. Topi’s rides and fills on ‘Tell Her’, ‘On My Knees’, and ’Make Up Your Mind’ are pretty impressive. Back that with Loco’s flowing pummeling bass lines, and the howl and scronk of Savagess vox/gits, and you get one smash of a debut from the LOCOMOTIONS!!

The LOCOMOTIONS are always on the move. Check out their new singles on Big Neck, Yakisakana and Perpetrator followed by an upcoming 10” on Dead Beat as well as a US tour later this year. Who would have guessed that the LOCOMOTIONS would have gotten this far with a band that began as mere practice space chatter. But that’s how it is sometime with the greats...unplanned!
