These sun soaked Texas rock veterans starting originally as a side project of Lee Lazarine and Rodney Baird while they were still jammin' in the Mullens. The SUNDAY DRUNKS quickly changed gears shortly after Matt Mayo moved to Seattle and the DRUNKS began playing more frequently in and around the Dallas area. With the highly anticipated release of their 'S/T' debut on Dead Beat Records, the SUNDAY DRUNKS quickly built a following as "the Mullens dudes new band", and received extremely favorable feedback from such reputable press outlets as Odyssey Zine, I-94 Bar, Horizontal Action, Deep Fry Bonanza and Ox Fanzine. The press was there, and word trvelled fast about this hot new band. The SUNDAY DRUNKS stripped down, laid back no frills brand of good time rock n roll pleased many of their dedicated prior Mullens fans, and also garnered them a whole new following of underground rock n roll music lovers. These Dallas toughnecks were the real deal, and people took note!! After playing numerous shows in and around the Texas area the SUNDAY DRUNKS were ready for a road trip. And what better excuse to cut loose and get outta town than to hit the road for one of the mid wests biggest rock n roll bashes. Chicago based rock/porn mag, Horizontal Action, invited the SUNDAY DRUNKS to play 2002's Chicago Blackout at the Beat Kitchen in downtown Chicago. A non stop s day booze and pills party fest with the SUNDAY DRUNKS joining the stage with the Compulsive Gamblers, New Bomb Turks, Los Sexareenos, Baseball Furies, Clone Defects, Ponys, Spits and Paybacks among others. 7 Days of reckless rock n roll fun, including gigs to and from Chicago helped garner THE SUNDAY DRUNKS a well needed outer TX reputation as a fun beer drinkin' rock n roll act. Upon returning home from this fun filled vacation/tour, Lee Lazarine (Guitars/Vox), Andy Newsome- (Bass/Backing Vox) and Rodney Baird (Drums) began practicing the songs that Lee had been writing for 'On The Prowl.' Amongst numerous shows including gigs with the Detroit Cobras, Makers, Immortal Lee County Killers, Riverboat Gamblers, Bamboo Kids and Hard Feelings, the SUNDAY DRUNKS really got a chance to hone the new material live, and were ready to begin tracking their 2nd full length. Recorded again by former Mullen Tim Stile in a few different recording sessions, 'On The Prowl' is another titillating chapter in the amazing musical craftsmanship of Lee Lazarine. With a few, dare I say, Mullens-esque rompers like 'Losin Again' and 'Just Some Fool' to the more laid back, country-fied blues ditties: 'Sunday Drunk' and 'Back To The End'; Lee and Rodney aren't afraid to appropriately reflect on their musical past, as well as show the maturation of the SUNDAY DRUNKS song writing abilities since the their debut. Abiding by the SUNDAY DRUNKS credo of keeping it TUNEFULL, RAW, and LOUD 'On The Prowl' is a rock solid follow up to their impressive 'S/T' debut. So grab an 18 pack, fire up the grill and enjoy the soundtrack to your next mid-summer backyard bash...Texas style!! Cooler full of ice cold Pabst Blue Ribbon, heap of 'burgs and 'dogs and crankin' up 'On The Prowl' from Dallas' premier rock n roll combo.... The SUNDAY DRUNKS!! |
