The backbone of Portland’s fierce rock n roll scene has always been the WEAKLINGS and Dead Beat is proud to say that they are back and ready to put another sordid chapter in their extensive musical history. It’s been nearly 10 years since the bands first 7” release back in 1995, and my what a long way they have come. After releasing a few singles on smaller Portland labels, the WEAKLINGS released a split album with the Jimmies on the now defunct Bitter Sweet Records, which began to give the band some momentum. Playing shows in and around the Portland area followed by a trek down the west coast, the word on this hot new burgeoning band was starting to spread. Despite minor label set backs, this release got the WEAKLINGS some decent press outside of the Portland area. Partly because of the music and partly because of the NY label affiliation, it gained the WEAKLINGS some long overdue exposure outside of PDX. After a few years of touring, recording and slight line up changes they caught the interest of everyone’s favorite raunchy rock n roll label of the 90’s…JUNK RECORDS. Junk signed the band in 1998 and released two absolutely essential pieces of rock n roll history: their ‘S/T’ LP/CD released in 1998 quickly followed by the epic ‘Just The Way We Like It’ LP/CD released in 1999. The tunes on both of these albums ripped, and the band always gave it their all live, resulting in a steady and dedicated fan base across the world. There is no denying the greatness of these 2 albums. They just exude that raw rock n roll realness that many a bands never quite achieve. It’s not something you can really strive to learn, it’s just there. You either have it or you don’t, and for the WEAKLINGS they have always had it.

Well the WEAKLINGS have always been at home on stage. The WEAKLINGS are just one of those live bands that people always remember. Love em or hate em, they are always a spectacle live. After numerous west coast stints and 2 US tours playing with great bands like THE DICTATORS, REAL KIDS, DEAD MOON, FEAR, MUDHONEY, POISON IDEA, MIKE WATT, THE HUMPERS and THE DEMOLITION DOLL RODS, the WEAKLINGS were ready to take a break from the road. The WEAKLINGS committed to playing the 2000 Las Vegas Shakedown, and than they wanted to take some time off. Some of their rabid fans got a chance to see them for the first time at that show and will always be remembered as either a monumentally amazing or an insanely psychotic night. Either way you can guarantee that those fans along with everyone else at that Shakedown remember their performance. Some might describe it as a musical orgy of blood, sweat, broken beer bottles and twisted guitar chords, and others might proclaim “Iggy Pop has reborn as Bradley Wayne Shaver”. It was raw, it was wild, and it was real…just a few works that have always epitomized the WEAKLINGS.

Well after heading back to Portland after the Las Vegas Shakedown, the WEAKLINGS played locally and used the time to begin writing songs for their next album. After recording various demos, Bradley Wayne Shaver- Vocals, Mark Rhemrev- Guitar, Dave Dillinger- Bass and Steve Michelson- Drums went into Gas House Studios in Portland to cut the tracks for ‘Rock N Roll Owes Me’. The results were phenomenal. 11 songs of raw brash, sleazy rock n roll. Whereas the WEAKLINGS began as more of a loud fast punk band in ’95, they have evolved into a sleazy dirty raunchy rock outfit. The songs on ‘’Rock N Roll Owes Me’ have more swagger and verve than their earlier blast ya fast approach. Along with Bradley signature tales of alcohol addled mischief you also get Rhemrev’s catchy Heartbreakers/ AC/DC / Rolling Stones guitar work to add to their new amped up and sexed out approach. 11 Songs in all including a rippin’ cover of ‘Little Girls Play With Dolls’ by the Lords of the New Church. This cover is an unreleased bonus track exclusive to the vinyl, and will not be available on the CD.

Their “NEVER SAY DIE” attitude and dedication to the road has cost them many members over the years, but has also earned them a rabid loyal fan base along the way. A fan base that has helped earn the WEAKLINGS a slot as one of the best and wildest bands in the underground rock n roll scene. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, the WEAKLINGS are still here and to those fans we give you the ‘Rock N Roll Owes Me’. LP is out now on Dead Beat Records. CD is out now on Wax Vaccine Records.
