An onslaught of favorable press ensued throughout 2004 in such great
punk/rock n roll rags like House of Smut, Under The Volcano, Low Cut,
OX, Sleazegrinder, No Brains and many more. The press was universally
favorable, with the exception of a few mags citing the Lo Fi quality of
'Bleed Me' that detracted a bit from the overall enjoyment of an otherwise
flawless rock n roll record. Well in the rock n roll world, budgets are
typically low to non-existent (especially on a debut), so 'Bleed Me' was
released as is: RAW, LOUD AND REAL! I, however, did tend to agree with
some of the reviews that the Jetts could totally benefit from the aid
of a bona fide recording facility to capture their full sound. THE BLACK
JETTS are far from a garage band, and it was certainly in the cards to
get these guys in a real recording studio for their 2nd album. Well, a little over a year after 'Bleed Me' was released, and THE BLACK JETTS check back in with 10 cohesive cuts of Detroit via Motown sin city sleaze. Lead frontman and vocalist/git player Gabe Stiff continues to perfect the art of his heartbroken, unsatisfied tales of relationships and romance by churning out smash after smash of reckless, unglorious reality. Just check out some of the gems on here like 'When I Was A Young Boy'. Rock n roll has always been a young mans game, and Stiff sings about the hardships of growing up as an artist/musician, when family and the ‘real world’ aren't so accepting of this type of lifestyle. Cool rock n roll riffage mixed with some, dare I say, psychedelic dabblings on this fun little cut complete with layered guitars and soothing Hammond B3 organ delicately placed in the background. 'Right On Sound' continues with an almost ballad-esque ditty 'You Can't Kill What's Already Dead'. Definitely the slowest track on the album, and this tune shows the JETTS delving into some Beggars Banquet era Stones territory. This is a slow moody number that includes some subtle keys and harmonicas thrown in to add to the peaceful somber atmosphere of the song. A nice mellow track that builds up to a more aggressive crescendo with Stiff screaming: 'YOU CAN"T KILL ME NOW……BECAUSE I'M ALREADY DEAD!!" Truer words were never spoken after the ugly break up or seperation with a significant other. And finally THE JETTS rip into 'Right On Sound.' Way more groove oriented than any track on 'Bleed Me', this tune finds the JETTS plowing head first into an early MC5 practice and giving Rob Tyner, Dennis Thompson and Wayne Kramer a run for their money. A mighty powerful riff n roll freak out, complete with bells, shakers and a smattering of lucid, cacophonous sound effects briging 'Right On Sound' to a close. Also, as a little bonus we decided to tag on an enhanced video for 'All Sexed Up'. 'All Sexed Up' has always been a unifying crowd favorite live and the vid features a plethora of slim and large ass shakin hotties, twistin' and shimmyin’ to this oftly requested JETTS song. Shot in true ((((Shake-O-Vision)))) with 50's era boob tube graininess, it's a nice litte additive to the disc. Be on the look out for THE BLACK JETTS live in a seedy little bar near you. They will tour the US beginning in April, and will head over to Japan in July to spread their dangerous rock n roll venom. In the mean time feel free too check out 'RIGHT ON SOUND' available through the Dead Beat web site or at a fine record emporium near you!!
