After a few years of playing in and around the pacific northwest, TRACTOR SEX FATALITY finally surfaced to the rest of the world with 2 ear splitting singles. One on the bands own Unscene Sounds, and a 45 on Virginia based trash/punk/noise label Big Neck Records. Two stellar, mind numbing records that many rock critics loosely described as "heavy art punk". Although I wouldn't necessarily say they're art punk,TRACTOR SEX FATALITY certainly are heavy! Well TRACTOR SEX FATALITY are back at it again and return triumphantly with their debut full length entitled 'Peel And Eat'. This 11 song blaster sounds like it was recorded amidst a world war 2 German Panzer attack. At the forefront you have Rob showcasing his twisted David Yow (Scratch Acid, Jesus Lizard) fascination backed by a tornado of hissing, blaring treble that sounds like each band member is colliding head on with a rusty, unoiled Messerschmitt propeller! Despite the raucous, chaos there is still a heavy, brutal calmess to TRACTOR SEX FATALITY's powerful music. Music that's hard to clasify and even harder on the ears. Just take a tune like 'Drumbrake' that starts out like a full on crushing
Black Flag rager and heads into neo-trippy Butthole Surfers/Electric Eels
territory before roundin' the song out in full on Black Flag rage mode.
Or check out 'Dance the Damage'. Sprinkled amongst a few mellow, almosy
jazzy, transitions is a competely blown out, hyper-Oblivians type number
acentuated by some impecably timed, boisterous cymbal crashes. Wow, violent
distortion never sounded so menaceingly pleasing! Amongst the other 9
blasters we're treated to a delightful, yet appropriate, cover of 'Cannibal'
by Scratch Acid. This amped up tune gets the TSF treatment and the music
comes off sounding like a fucked up Big Black outake rather than any closely
resembling the original. Add Robs frantic, unsettling vox and this cover
makes for a nice compliment to an already classic tune. |
