I’ve always felt that to truly gauge a Rock N Roll bands talent, you must experience them at their rawest, most stripped down form. Why? Because you can take any mediocre bar band, throw ‘em in a nice studio, and with enough recording time you’ll come out with a decently sounding record that masks itself as talent. But take that same band, throw em in a room with a tape recorder, and the bands complete lack of talent will shine through the shitty tape hiss.

Well I don’t think there’s a finer example of a band displaying this raw, stripped down talent than on LiveFastDie’s debut LP/CD ‘Bandana Thrash Record’. In the case of LiveFastDie, as with many unsigned punk/rock n roll bands, a fancy recording budget isn’t an option. You’re forced to record with what’s available, which is usually either a 1 track (AKA tape recorder!) or a 4 track if you’re lucky. And if the tunes are there someone will take interest. Well I did the first time I heard a few home recordings from LiveFastDie. Pure anger fueled rock n roll with songs that have hooks and undeniable energy despite the ‘studio-less’ recording process.

Most ‘bigger’ lablels would probably dimiss ‘Bandana Thrash Record’’s production for being to harsh. Ya, it’s pretty noisy, stripped down and in your face; but it’s also a true representation of what the band sounds like. They ain’t layering the hell outta the guitar/drum/vocal tracks or any of that crap. Just recording through the mics as loud as fuckin possible. And there’s also something special about the songs on this album when you take into consideration that this band recorded all these tracks at a time when they had no label interest or fan base what’s so ever. They just just wanted to make music, have fun and document their raw ass, nihilistic, scum fuck rock n roll!!

Every track on ‘Bandana Trash Record’ was recorded on an old betamax recorder and mixed with a Radio Shack mixer. Probably about as low brow as you can get. The mics were placed in different places when recording different songs, so the sound quality vairies from track to track. But even on the harsher, muddier takes, there’s no deying the killer tunes that LiveFastDie were trackin’. I don’t think you can listen to this record and not be moved in some way by these great songs! Just take blasters like ‘Troglayte City’ or ‘Camero Shit The Bed’. The manic guitar butchery practically rips yer frickin head off. And even on the slower rockers like ‘F-Train’, ‘Snuff Movie’ and ‘Fat Guy With An Ipod’ the guitars are still biting and mesh nicely with Camero Werewolfs menacing raspy snarl. Just sheer energy song after song!

Musically LiveFastDie aren’t breakin any new ground, but that certainly doesn’t detracting from the fact that ‘Bandana Thrash Record’ is a great album. Ya the GG and the Jabbers comparisons are well deserved. Primarily because the songs are delivered with an air of big city sleeze through Camero’s vox that bare an earie resemblance to a young GG in his prime. Also many of the lyrical themes revolve around the four topics that made GG a legend. Namely sex, power, being a fuck up and gettin fucked up. But this definately ain’t no Jabber nostaligia trip. You can also hear bits and pieces of other great bands like the Pagans, Lewd, Ramones and Mentors on this album!

Ok vinyl lovers, we’re givin you another golden nugget on the LP. THE VINYL INCLUDES AN LP ONLY BONUS TRACK called ‘Bandada Thrash’. So ya the name of the LP/CD is named after the bonus track on the wax!! It’s both clever and idiotic at the same time, but suits LiveFastDie perfectly! Yer brain cells ain’t gonna get any bigger by listening to this album, but it is a pretty goddamn fun ride!!

For Fans of: the Pagans, Carbonas, Reatards, GG Allin, Tokyo Electron, Candy Snatchers, Throbbin Urges, TKO’s, Buttercups, Feelers, Dwarves, Kajun SS, Baseball Furies, RAMONES, Dutch Masters etc.
