If you you've followed Dead Beat over the years, you know my sheer respect and admiration for this talented German band. The GEE STRINGS consisting of Ingi- Vocals, Bernadette- Guitar, Nik Nasty- Bass/Vocals, and Steve The Beef- Drums/Vocals are no new comers to the international punk scene. For the past 12 years, Ingi and Bernadette have been sluggin it out in the clubs as The GEE STRINGS for longer than most peoples entire musical careers. And that says alot in the substance infested, topsy-survey life of the average rock n roll band.

One of the things that seperates The GEE STRINGS from any other band is their stylistic individuality. Ingi's rough n raspy voice adds a very unique dynamic to the band; mainly because she doesn't go for the sexy, sultry delivery that most female front-woman opt for. On the converse she opts for the more gravelly, femme-snarl ala Poly Styrene (X Ray Spex) and Mia Zapata (The Gits) that's become the backbone of The GEE STRINGS sound over the years. And Ingi's vocals strongly complenant Bernadette's signature Thunders, Chrome, Tek guitar stylings that solidifies the GEE STRINGS sound.

After 3 highly successful full lengths including their last LP/CD, 'Arrest Me' released on Dead Beat Records, The GEE STRINGS are back with their most technically proficient album to date. 'A Bunch Of Bugs' bashes out 11 primal cuts of classic '78 - '80 US punk. Takin cues from some of the greats like the Heartbreakers, Germs, Avengers, and even a dash of Birdman, you can picture 'Let's Make Up And Screw' blarin out of the rickety, dis-sheveled speakers of Max's Kansas City in '78! Hell their take on the classic 1979 Nervous Eaters gem 'Just Head' is nothing short of perfection. But the GEE's ARE from Germany and they certainly choose the time and place to let their Euro colors shine. Just take the timeless 'So Messed Up' or 'Go Skid Rock', for instance. Either of these rippers could effortlessly, nessle themselves amongst legendary Deutch punk pioneers PVC, Big Balls & the Great White Idiot and the Pack on an upcoming Redrum Records lost treasures edition of Bloodstains Across Germany.

Times change, and scenes change, but The GEE STRINGS remain. And 'A Bunch Of Bugs' is another fine example of why The GEE STRINGS continue to be one of the most relevant bands to emerge from the rich, historical German punk scene in the last decade. Kudos guys...on another solid album!!
