That cover/original combo was the core of the early INTELLECTUALS gigs that helped garner them a home in the small tight knit Punk/Italian rock n roll scene. Through that tight knit community, Hate Records discovered the band and released their debut single, ''69', on their sub label Music For Haters in 2002. 250 copies of this 3 song bad boy were pressed and it sold out in a few days. The following year Alphamonic would release their, whom many consinder, debut full length. It was a Split cassette with Milwauke noise mongers the Mistreaters. I say "whom many consider" because, first of all, that Tape was released as a cassette only release. Cassettes in 2002....I mean come on!?? And secondly, at a scant 150 copies and released on a label that is more associated with an obscure fanzine than an even obsucure-er cassette label; this is more of a collectors rarity than an actual release. Ya it has 12 blues bashed rippers on it, but to call that their debut full length is...well....a stretch! 2004 brough on couple more trash grenades. They did a a split 7" with the Rock N Roll Adventure Kids on Vida Loca (Italy) and their "real" debut 'Black!, Domina! Now!' LP/CD on Hate Record. 'Black!, Domina! Now!' is a monsterous 16 tracks of art fused, primorial rock n roll to which Terminal Boredom proclaims: "most songs remind me of a poppier take on the Coachwhips. This is a really fun record by the only GOOD modern Italian band I can think of." Um ya, it's that good! Following 'Black!, Domina! Now!' they released a split 7" with the Memphis based, Flying V wielding, River City Tanlines on Gonna Puke (Italy). They also added a new Keys player AKA Key Tee (who is rumored to rock the Felt Ups and TJ and the Lipstix) to round out their current status as a trio. Well well well, Rome's premier garbage can derelecits are about to unleash their highly anticipated follow up to 'Black! Domina! Now!'. With an aresenal of warped Oblivians, Gories, Fireworks and '68 Comeback records, the INTELLECTUALS infiltrated the Temple Of Noise studios in Rome to record 'Invisible is the Best.' 'Invisible...' prominantly places Guitar Boy, Drum Girl and Key Tee at the peak of the INTELLECTUALS "career". 14 tracks of hook laden, blues drenched, keys skronk that covers quite the gamut musically and lyrically. From the opening cut of 'Vinyl Junkie Paranoia' where they lament the need to fulfill their glutonous record buying habits to the playful and clever 'Fichetti' where they sing/scream about hipsters. Are they saying THEY are hipsters or are the lyrics from an outsiders perspective. Hmm. 'Invisible Is The Best' is just a fun record. And like past and present trash comrades the Mummies, Fe Fi Fo Fums, Okmoniks and Supercharger, the INTELLECTUALS just sound like they're having a care free, blast bashing through these 14 low brown, fuzzed out garage tunes. I don't mean to undermine their catchy and creative writing abilities because the songs are really, I mean REALLY, catchy. But the INTELLECTUALS geunuine, unfeigned enthusiasm is what makes 'Invisible Is The Best' an album that will revered by both garage and rock n roll fans in the years to come.
