The elusive LE FACE formed in the summer of 2006 in Whittier, CA, a small suburban wasteland on the outskirts of the Los Angeles. How did they know each other? Can’t get into specifics, but let’s just say it involved drugs and dope dealers; and we’ll leave it at that. In their first year they were banned from nearly every club they played for beating audience members, destroying house equipment, and fighting promoters. Were these instances justifiable? Depends on who you talk to and if they were their. LE FACE supposedly contains members of the Fault Lines and Mika Miko, but I can’t confirm, nor deny that. They continually play around the LA area with a bunch of local bands you’ve probably never heard of, along with other notables like the Urinals, The Controllers, the Gears, and the Dogs. Due to inherant chemical dependency issues within the band and a laundry list of other reasons LE FACE seems to play about half as many shows as they commit to. It happens.

In 2007, amidst the local problematic turmoil that seemed to follow LE FACE everywhere they played, they managed to record a 3 song 7'' for Smokin' Barrel Records. That debut single recieved very little national attention and sold out instantaneously through of word of mouth solely from their rabid LA fan base. Earlier this year they released their second 7'' on Rich Bitch Records and toured the west coast with their bros the Freindly Neighbors.

Back at home they’re known as something completely different from their LA/Orange County counterparts. Their total disregard for scene drama (ie. I'll suck you, if you fuck me) leaves them operating almost exclusively in their own little world. LA in general is filled with a multitude of micro scenes, and LE FACE chooses to stay away from all of them. If you talk to anyone in any of these mico-scenes, chances are they have an opinion on LE FACE. It’s definately a love em or hate em dichotomy built primarily on scenester-ism, local hype and alot of gossip/shit talk. But LE FACE chooses to have no direct scene alliance, so in a way ‘Isolation’ is a very fitting title for their first full length.

I asked LE FACE to do an album about a year back and it’s finally done. 3/4 of the band currently have DUI’s which made it very difficult for them to get together to practice, let alone record. But after many failed recording attemps, and rescheduled recording/mixing dates ‘Isolation’ is finally ready for the masses. ‘Isolation’ contains 13 songs of what the band describes as “neo dada noise.” That’s not a far off description, but they definately have their roots firmly planted in punk rock. They take different aspects of the Urinals, Human Hands, Mentally Ill, Simply Saucer and the Electric Eels and put it through their own paranoid, unblanced filter. It’s nice to hear them deconstruct punk rock and spit it back out as their own psychotic, off kilter bastard child of rock n roll. Neo dada noise indeed.
