The BLACK KNOTS have this very coveted “thing” that very little rawk bands possess. It’s called originality. The BLACK KNOTS aren’t affraid to take chances. They’re not affraid to try something a little different. And they most certainly play by their own rules. On top of that, these guys are all pretty damn talented musicians which is always at the core of any really GOOD rock n roll band. They’ve been in other bands, they know the drill, and the band isn’t “just a hobby”. The BLACK KNOTS put alot of thought into the writing process before putting pen to paper and hitting the practice space. The end result is an albums worth bad ass songs that breath new life into the festerting corpse of rock n roll. The album I’m talkin’ about? The ‘Guitarmageddon’. And with song titles like ‘Redefining What Kick As Can Be’, ‘The Illuminati’ and ‘Kickin’ Like A Wild Conquistador’, that should give you a little inclination that they’re operating a little left of center. After a self released debut full length on the bands own Oil River Records, the BLACK KNOTS are back with an abosulutely thunderous, mind numbing record. Riff after riff, song after song the BLACK KNOTS plow through the competition by doing what so many bands have failed miserably at attempthing. Rockin’ the fuck out. In the same league as long standing riff demons like the Candy Snatchers, New Bomb Turks, the Hellacopters and Zeke; the BLACK KNOTS flawlessly spew 10 fierce, vicious rippers that so many “kiddy bands” could only aspire to write. The small, college town of Huntington, West Virginia has bred the BLACK KNOTS well. Raised on a steady diet of AC/DC, Thorougood, Maiden, the Stooges, Motorhead, Birdman and Priest; the BLACK KNOTS have spent many a years disecting the core elements that become the nucleus of the BLACK KNOTS sound. Monsterous, ear splitting riffs built around a brooding, thunderous back bone and sealed by the boastly, lecherous snarl of their charasmatic front man Jerry Lee Queen. Sounds like these don’t come from just any band and god damn, if they don’t play this shit well. On June 6th, 2005 the Hellacopters released an album called ‘Rock N Roll Is Dead’. Ya I can definately agree with that. But leave it to the BLACK KNOTS to go above and beyond the call of duty to resuscitate the cadaver. Rock N Roll definately isn’t alive, but with records like the ‘Guitarmageddon’, I can safely say it’s at least got a fuckin’ pulse. For Fans of: Hellacopters, Lucky Punch, Candy Snatchers, New Bomb Turks, Teengenerate, Devil Dogs, TV Killers, Hellbenders, Nashville Pussy, Zeke, Motorhead, High Beams, Sunday Drunks, Bad Machine etc. |
